Ok, so first off -- I'm pretty sure there are a couple of cults religious belief systems out there that claim music is "the work of the devil" or something along those lines. Fortunately, I'm pretty sure most of you don't subscribe to such crap utter nonsense. That being said, if you know anyone who does, please feel free to toss a bucket of ice water in their face and make every effort to wake them up out of the stone age. With your help, we can stamp out this horrible disease in our lifetime. Wink wink.
Anyway, the topic of today's post is very simple -- listen to music! I think it was Art DeVany who wrote on his blog a few years back something to the effect of "If you aren't listening to good music, you aren't getting all the getting you could be getting out of life". Something like that anyway. And I agree -- if you pop on some good music that makes your soul sing, it's probably one of the quickest ways to push any darkness or negativity you might have been exposed to right out the window.
Plus, it's fun.
And which one of us couldn't use a little bit more of that?
Case in point -- I put on some Led Zeppelin (How the West was Won, CD #1) during my bodyweight/kettlebell routine this morning, and it totally lit me up. I absolutely killed the workout and the bells.
Live Zeppelin almost always does that for me, but find out what does it for you. Find different kinds of music tailored for different kinds of activity. Work involving lots of thinking is probably suited to different music than what you might listen to when you're putting up sheet rock. Experiment. Get into it. Check out the latest stuff (and don't forget the old stuff).
Very few things in this world can brighten your day faster and more effectively than a well chosen CD or song.

I listen to music all the time, but have specific playlists for things like running. I even have playlists for when I teach. Calming for some activities, exciting for others. Music is such a motivational tool in my life.
